Feature & Follow Friday (#4)

Feature & Follow is hosted by Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read.  Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

Question of the Week: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?

A: While I dislike love triangles and alternating POVs, they're not deal breakers for me.  Even if a book has bad grammar or typos, I'll still try and trudge on through it.  The only real deal breaker for me is if I've read a significant chunk of the book and nothing has happened yet.  Drives me up the wall.  If I'm bored and feel as if I'm only waiting for something to happen, more than likely I won't finish it.

  1. I agree, some things can be annoying, but aren't necessarily deal breakers.
Slow books can be difficult, but I am unable to put down a book, so I just keep going. Sometimes it's worth it. lol.

    1. I have a lot of respect for people who can never put a book down. I feel like you're a better person than me because of it, lol :P

  2. I think it's vital for a book to have a good hook and consistent arc of action to the logical plot ending as well. I don't like boring books where nothing happens, no matter how great the characters are! New GFC follower.

    1. What I find especially annoying is if it has a good start and hook...but falls flat. I feel violated and betrayed.

  4. ooOOOoohhh I actually enjoy differing POVs. :P But have to agree that if there is a big chunk of 'what is actually happening here' or 'has the story progressed at all' I tend to want to shut off. :/

    1. I do like differing POVs if done well. I have read a bunch where it didn't add to the story or was distracting and it turned me off to them in general. It's still not a deal breaker, though. Followed you back!

  6. As much as I hate that, I didn't even think of it when writing my deal breakers. Nothing happening is enough to make me throw a book at the wall in disgust! :) New follower, check me out at:

  7. I definitely agree! I can't stand slow books where nothing happens. I feel like I'm not even reading anything at all.
