Notes From My Desk: Desperately Seeking Roses

I’m starting to notice a trend that I absolutely love any book with a rose on the cover.  I first noticed it when I gathered a few of my most loved books together in a pile and saw the number of roses.  It was startling.  Therefore, people should put more roses on book covers; I’ll love the crap out of it.  Guaranteed.  Is this just a joke?  Let’s see:

Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky?  Not so much.

Why?  There’s a sunflower where a rose could be.  If it was a rose in a bottle, maybe I would have had different feelings.  Who knows how my brain works -- certainly I don’t.  But I'm finding myself hoping for more roses than sunflowers in 2013.

P.S.: I don't have some crazy hate for sunflowers.  Just throwing that out there.

  1. My copy of Beauty by Robin McKinley has a rose on the cover, but I haven't read that yet so I don't know if it confirms or explodes this theory.

    1. It has really good ratings on GoodReads. I'll have to check it out -- gotta check my own theory, right?

  2. Beastly by Alex Flinn has a rose on the cover-- I've been seeing lots of cover reveals for a book called "Indelible", and it has a rose on the cover...hmm. I loved Kill Me Softly, though! That's an amazing book! Beastly was pretty good, LOL. (:

    1. I've been meaning to read Beastly, because I'm pretty sure it will be super and further confirm the "rose-theory." I'll have to look into Indelible as well :)

  3. Tyler-Rose also has a rose thing. ;) I'll have to send her over here so she can recommend things. I know the Beauty cover Twit is talking about, though, and I'm almost done with that book and it has been a lovely, cozy read. :) Also, even though haven't read it yet, Rose Daughter also has got a rose (surprise!) on the cover, and I believe Tyler-Rose has told me she likes that one (also Robin McKinley) even better.
